Welcome to my online art portfolio. I am Floris, queer and neurodivergent artist from the Netherlands.
It’s hard for me to define my work. It’s fluid and does not really adhere to a theme. It is all that I am, and how I see the world. My art is often abstract and ambiguous, and it is not always immediately clear which parts of me are reflected. But it is always there. Art is how I attempt to make sense of the world and my inner life – sometimes overtly therapeutic, but more often it is a celebration of all the things I have seen and wish to remember.
If I had to pick one overarching theme for my work, it would be being at ease. I am personally most calmed by nature – looking at it, being immersed in it. It is not a coincidence that my paintings feature organic forms and colours that are often found in nature. They make me feel human, and feeling human means feeling at ease for me. It might be very different for you. I do not dictate what others feel when looking at my paintings and I enjoy the ambiguousness of the work. I therefore don’t like to title my paintings. I like them to be fluid. They don’t need to be what I intend them to be (although usually I don’t intend for them to be anything).
I would like to invite you to look without prior information and without judgement. Other than the size and materials used, my paintings are not accompanied by a description. They are whatever you want them to be. Though I do hope that they evoke positive feelings for you, as I wish for every human.
